Characters - Cast List

Henry Dalrymple as 'The Kidnapper'
Henry was casted as antagonist of the film. Henry's character's perception of love have been manipulated during his childhood, and consequently he does not understand the concept of love and affection. The motive of Henry's kidnapping were not depicted within the trailer itself, nor was his childhood problems. By leaving these unanswered question around such a complex character, this would be used as a factor to attract our target audience as they seek answers surrounding the kidnapper. However, the various title screens and the title of the film reveal that Henry's intention with the film are not to harm Rosie, but rather receive love from her.

Shania Conway as 'Rosie'
Shania was casted as the protagonist of the thriller film, who is kidnapped and held captive. During planning, we opted for the name Rosie due to its close relation to a rose or roses. Roses are seen as a flower given to a love one as a gift, and Henry views Rosie as a gift herself. We casted Shania as we felt she was well suited to play the role of Rosie. Firstly, being 18 herself, this provided an ideal age for Rosie who we wanted to be a young adult. This is because by using a protagonist that would be located within our target audience, this generates common ground between the audience and onscreen characters, attracting our target audience.

Isa Cusick-Knight as 'Daniella'
Isa was casted as Daniella, the friend of kidnapped Rosie. Her role is pivotal within the film's narrative, as the only witness on the scene of the kidnap. Isa's voice can be heard during the trailer used as a voice over, which appears like a phone call to the emergency services. Isa was casted for similar reasons to Shania, as she would be within our target audience, branching similarities between the screen and audience.

George Kelly as 'The Detective'
George was casted as the Detective due to his prior experiences within the acting industry. His on screen appearance comes as the Detective, who reports to Rosie's family that she has been kidnapped. Despite being a short cameo, it was vital to portray a sense of realism towards the audience, by showing the real effect of such events upon a family.

Elizabeth Dalrymple as 'Rosie's Mother'
Elizabeth's involvement within the film is a short cameo acting as the mother of the kidnapped Rosie. Elizabeth may only play such a minor role within the scale of the film, but as I previously stated, similarly to the Detective, her role is essential to portray a sense of realism towards the audience, by emphasising the devastating effect such an event will have upon a family.

Aaron Hayes as Henry's Stuntman
Due to the fact that Henry does not have a driving license, Aaron was casted to replace Henry for that single scene as the kidnapper. However, the audience would be unaware of this as Aaron is not shown on camera behind the wheel as we used a range of camera shots and techniques to avoid Aaron being seen. Also, due to George being unobtainable for further filming due to other commitments, Aaron was used to provide a voiceover to be used over George's scene.

Evaluation Task 1 - In What Ways Does Your Media Product Use, Develop or Challenge Forms of Conventions From Real Media Poducts?

Frame 1 My first frame for analysis is my film poster that I created for ‘Love Me’. This conveys the typical conventions for the thriller genre; this is highlighted by the colour scheme and main image. For example, the colour scheme is predominantly dark colours, with deep tones of red and black. These two colours are closely associated with darkness and evil, connoting the intentions of the antagonist. My main images and poster design were inspired by that of Knock Knock, selecting three images which directly refer to the narrative of the film. In my case, the images reveal the two main characters as well as the setting. This is very similar to that of Knock Knock, another thriller movie, in which the protagonist Keanu Reeves is depicted, similarly to Henry Dalrymple in ‘Love Me’. However, my poster challenges general conventions as it lacks a motto or tag for the film. For example, Knock Knock features “One Night Can Cost You Everything” The reason for this is that I did not
