Zodiac

Establishing shot – Instantly presents the scene for the movie, informing the audience of the location and setting of the production.

Quick cuts and fades to black – This gradually builds up the tempo of the trailer, generating great suspense around the film’s narrative. This creates curiosity amongst the audience as minimal content is being pictured, leaving them with a series of unanswered questions.

Slow motion – Signifies the shooting of the female, and her murder. The slow motion highlights the prominence of this event within the film and adds dramatic effect. The scene leaves the audience questioning the event, with a series of possibilities that caused the event.

Change of pacing – During the introduction, a sudden change in the tone is recognisable. This is represented as the non-diegetic music changes to adopt a lighter tone, as well as the use of quick cut editing. The tone switches from the sinister tone to a more humorous approach through the use of light music after the picturing of violent scenes.
